Jobnet is a FREE recruitment service that combines the employment expertise of 5 London boroughs. Where vacancies cannot be filled or staff cannot be found in one borough, Jobnet enables the information to be shared quickly between the others to find a solution.
Through matching jobseekers to jobs, Jobnet aims to provide greater opportunities for local people and local businesses in Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Havering, Lewisham and Redbridge.
Jobnet works by sharing job vacancies and jobseekers CV’s across the 5 participating boroughs. These are held on an online database which jobseekers and employers can search with our powerful search tool to help them find the jobs and potential employees that interest them
You should use Jobnet because it gives you access to the employment expertise of 5 London boroughs. Through Jobnet you can access a wide range of job and training opportunities and receive expert advice on CVs, application writing and interview techniques to support your job search.
5. What area does Jobnet operate in?
At present Jobnet operates in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Havering, Lewisham and Redbridge. However, if you are interested in Jobnet and live outside of this area please get in touch, as Jobnet may be able to help (call 020 83087847 or email us at enquiries@jobnet.org.uk).
6. What kind of jobs do you advertise?
Jobnet covers every kind of job: full time, part time and contract work in fields such as administration, banking, catering, construction, education, engineering, finance, marketing, retail and sales.
7. Is jobnet free for jobseekers?
Yes!
Because Jobnet provides one-to-one job search advice, jobseekers need to complete a registration process at their local Jobnet center and provide evidence of their eligibility to work. For further details, please contact you local Jobnet office.
If you have not yet registered with Jobnet, you will need to contact your local Jobnet borough advisers via our contacts page. If you have registered, each job vacancy contains instructions on how to apply.
10. Can I apply for more than one job at a time?
Yes, once you have registered your personal client adviser will work with you to identify your employment needs and help you apply for jobs that match your skills and experience.
11. I don’t live in one of the Jobnet boroughs, can I use Jobnet?
Yes, it may be possible for you to use Jobnet even if you live outside of the Jobnet Boroughs. If you contact Jobnet (call 020 83087847 or email us at enquiries@jobnet.org.uk) we can let you know if there is a similar job search service operating where you live or advise you which Jobnet office to contact.
12. I need some work experience, can Jobnet help?
Yes, if you contact you local Jobnet office they will be able to advise you about work experience opportunities in your area.
13. I need some training, can Jobnet help?
Yes, if you contact you local Jobnet office they will be able to advise you about the training courses available in your area.
14. Can I get help preparing my CV?
Yes, Jobnet’s expert advisors can give you advice and support to help you produce a high quality CV and tailor your CV for different jobs.
15. Can I get advice on how to fill in job applications?
Yes, expert advisors can give you practical help and guidance on how to complete job applications including finding out what employers are looking for, understanding job descriptions and writing supporting statements.
16. Can you help me prepare for an interview?
Yes, Jobnet’s expert advisors can help you prepare for the day so you are ready to answer difficult questions and make the very best impression.
17. I don’t have regular access to a computer, how can I use Jobnet?
Your local Jobnet office can offer free computer facilities and Internet access to help you in you job search. To find you nearest Jobnet office, please visit our contacts section or call 020 83087847 or email us at enquiries@jobnet.org.uk.
18. It says on the website that I need to provide evidence of my eligibility to work. How can I do this?
When you first go to your local Jobnet office please take at least 1 of the following:
- Valid Passport
- Home Office Papers
- Original Birth Certificate
- Signed UK photographic driving licence
- Valid EU photo ID card
AND…..
2 Items of the following:
- Pay Slip (less than 3 months old)
- National Insurance Card
- Utility Bill (Less than 3 months old e.g council tax, gas, bank statement)
- Marriage Certificate
- Job Seekers Book
- P45

19. I’m going to be made redundant soon. Can Jobnet help?
Yes, Jobnet’s services are not just for people who are presently unemployed. If you are underemployed in part-time or low skilled work, returning to work after a career break or are facing redundancy Jobnet can help. Please contact you local Jobnet office for more information.
20. I want to change jobs, can Jobnet help?
If you are underemployed in part-time or low skilled work, returning to work after a career break or are facing redundancy, you can access Jobnet’s one to one practical help and guidance on every aspect of looking for work.
21. What’s the difference between Jobnet and Job Centre Plus?
Jobnet is a FREE and recruitment service, funded by the London Development Agency. Using Jobnet is voluntary and is open to all people who are currently unemployed, underemployed in part-time or low skilled work or returning to work after a career break.
Jobcentre Plus is a central government agency supporting people of working age from welfare into work. It aims to help unemployed and economically inactive people move into employment.
22. Is Jobnet a confidential service? Will my personal details be shared with a third party?
We will not share information about individual users with any third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public. Click here to view our privacy policy in full.
23. If I find a job through Jobnet, what happens next?
We will need you to provide evidence that you have started work and after 13 weeks that you are still employed. As the services Jobnet provides rely on public funding, we need this information to show we are helping people into work. As with all information you provide, this will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Once registered, your client advisor will be able to explain this process and why we need this information in greater detail.
24. If I’m undertaking training, will my benefits be affected?
Generally speaking, as long as your training is for less than 16 hours per week, benefits such as Job Seekers Allowance should not be affected. Your client advisor will be able to advise you on your individual circumstances.
